BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE

How to lighten the darkness . . .
How to awaken sleeping souls . . .
How to wipe away prejudice
And the superficial smiles
Of the pseudo cynics . . .
How to look into arrogant eyes
And still feel love for the child behind them . . .
How to tolerate discrimination . . .
How to get through . . .
How to reach in past their egos’ defenses
And touch their tender natures . . .
And though I cry
And though I cry again
And though I try to touch their hearts, still I cannot get through. . .
They remain anaesthetized . . .
Indifferent to my tears . . .
Should I rage at them now
Though not all are guilty of the crime?
Should I rage . . .
Or is it only I who feel the pain
Of man’s inhumanity to man?

And to those of you who prefer to sit upon the fence
Safely hiding behind your non committal guise
Waiting for the right words to come through . . .
What do you feel?

Can you hear your conscience calling you
To speak out against the lies?
Will you, even now, step out from the shadows
And let your true countenance shine . . .
Or will you continue to cringe in fear
Of those who would treat you with contempt
Those who scorn your cry
for TRUTH
for LOVE
for THEM?

Do you have the courage to stand up
Against the tyranny of the bullies
And tell them what you feel . . .
Or will you remain detached?

Can you stand by and watch your fellow man suffer?
Can you turn a blind eye . . .
Or will you rage at injustice
And wipe the smirking sarcasm
From the faces of the Philistines?

For it’s time to take your place
It’s time to ACTIVELY care for one another
BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!
